Bronze Cross Challenge
Competent swimmers, and those with some previous first aid experience are invited to challenge the Bronze Cross course through the Vancouver Lifeguard Association. Candidates are required to review material from the Canadian Lifesaving manuals as well as be aware of the required elements of the exam. Candidates can contact programs@vancouverlifeguards.com for specific details. This course has a required timed swim of 400 meters in 11 minutes.
Bronze Cross (BC) is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training, including an introduction to safety supervision.
The Lifesaving Society’s BC begins the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding. Candidates strengthen and expand their lifesaving skills and begin to apply the principles and techniques of active surveillance in aquatic facilities. BC emphasizes the importance of teamwork and communication in preventing and responding to aquatic emergencies. BC is a prerequisite for advanced training in the Society’s National Lifeguard and leadership certification programs.
The Bronze Cross courses are prerequisites for lifeguard certification across Canada.
Prerequisite: Bronze Medallion. Candidates are also required to have a pocket mask and whistle. These can be purchased through the VLA or the Lifesaving Society. Please contact us if you need to purchase.
